Rotorua’s Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre is undergoing earthquake strengthening. We were called in, in conjunction with Seger Roading, to use our AirX truck to remove the sub-soils from beneath the building to expose the foundations.
We positioned our AirX truck as close as possible to the building then connected an additional 20m of pipe to our 6m boom. A small digger was positioned in the sub-level of the building, digging up the soil and feeding it to the AirX. The AirX acted like giant vacuum cleaner, sucking the soil up and — once full — transporting it off-site for dumping.
The benefits?
In this case, our AirX truck replaced the need for a conveyor system, which would have moved the product from beneath ground level to the exterior of the building before needing to be loaded into tip trucks for transportation offsite. Our 1 truck (and their mini-digger) did the job of 4 pieces of machinery: a mini-digger, conveyor, front end loader, and tip truck.
As well as reducing the amount of machinery needed, the AirX also substantially reduced the estimated working time by 2.5 days – instead of taking 4 days, it took just 1.5.
Excellent work from our AirX team!
