We recently promoted Chris from the trucks to working in the Canterbury office as Dispatch / Operations Assistant. We asked him a few quick questions to get to know him better…
Q: What made you want to take on this new role at HydroVac?
A: I needed a change in what I was doing but I still wanted to stay in the industry and at HydroVac.
Q: What excites you about your role?
A: It’s something new so I’m learning a new skill but I can still go out, be hands on and get a job done.
Q: What did you do before HydroVac?
A: I started at City Care in 2012 working in CCTV van and eventually ended up working in a pipe re-habitation department were we relined pipes. In January 2015 I took on a new role as an EQC damage reporter for a plumbing company. Here, I used CCTV and QA for commercial and residential repairs, as well as doing a small amount of lining and waterblasting with a drain-laying crew. I started with HydroVac in 2019 as a driver/operator.
Q: What has surprised you about HydroVac?
A: How much of a variety of work there is. And that nothing is ever a problem as far as customers are concerned.
Q: Tell us about your home life…
A: I have a partner, Caitlin, who I have been with for ten years, a daughter named Autumn, and two dogs.
Q: How do you relax?
A: I don’t think I’ll be alone in saying I enjoy a bit of binge-watching Netflix! I love to get the dogs out on walks as much as they like to tell me it’s walk time. And I enjoy going out with Caitlin when we can get a sitter for Autumn.
Q: What would surprise us about you?
A: I have done karate for a number of years and I used to ride uni-cycles around mountain bike tracks — it’s called Muni Cycling.
