In their efforts to move away from the need for chlorination in Christchurch town supply, the Christchurch Council are renewing 100+ of the city’s water supply wells.
In order for groundwater to be provided without the need for treatment such as chlorination, well heads need to be at a certain standard. This upgrade work will mean wells will meet the standard and temporary chlorination can stop at that pump station. In Christchurch there are 104 wells with below-ground well heads and 36 with above-ground well heads.
HydroVac’s South Island division were bought in to work on this project, after previous contractors failed. Using their expertise in hydro excavation, the HydroVac team are excavating at each well to a depth of 13m.
