We’re excited to have Jo Hamblin join our Christchurch branch as an Accounts and Health & Safety Administrator. We ran her through our Q&A to get to know her a little better…
Q. What made you want to work for HydroVac?
Initially it was the job description that said that I could make the role my own and be a star, then when I interviewed with the Canterbury MD Matt, I came away feeling like this is a company that cared about its team as well as being supportive.
Q. What excites you about your role?
Everything! Especially being able to change some of the processes that were in place by just talking it through with Matt and having his support and confidence in me to allow the changes — that’s exciting.
Q. What did you do before HydroVac?
My husband and I owned our own franchise business which was a Kiwibank, NZ Post, NZ Lotto and giftware store.
Q. What’s surprised you about HydroVac so far?
A couple of things – firstly, the diversity of what we do and how well the team responds to all jobs. Secondly, there is no divide between what is expected of the driver/operators and the office team — if a job needs to be done and there are no drivers available, then either Matt or Chris just do it. I find that really cool.
Q. What are the priorities, now you’re in the role?
To be able to streamline my role to a point where Matt can concentrate on other aspects of the business without having to worry about invoicing and running the admin side of the office.
Q. Tell us about your home life…
Well, it was just a nice peaceful home life with husband and dog, as both children had moved out, then suddenly child number two came back with a boyfriend, a dog and the flatmate that was living with them and suddenly home life is not so peaceful!
Q. How do you relax?
I’m an avid reader, and I also enjoy fishing, boating, and going out for lunches on the weekend with my husband.
Q. What would surprise us about you?
I’m actually quite a good baker of biscuits, cakes and sweets. Oh, and I absolutely love everything about Christmas….
