With a fleet of more than 30 hard-working trucks that work long hours, it makes sense for Hydrovac to have its own on-site mechanics and engineering team – and for them, no day is ever the same!
Led by Brett Bowyer, our West Auckland based engineering team includes Zein, Leo (not pictured) and Esen. As well as all the usual tasks required of heavy-duty equipment (getting trucks COF ready, regular services, maintenance, and repairs), our workshop team is also charged with innovation and problem solving. They’re constantly looking for better ways we can do things.
For example, the crew asked for an easier way to attach their tools when cleaning cesspits on the motorway, so the workshop team engineered a bespoke solution that saves the crew time and a lot of effort.
When wanting to deal with disposal waste in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way, Brett and HydroVac co-founder Andrew Williams came up with the prototype for what is now the HydroVac Recycling Plant. This exciting development sees waste from jobs put through a process that separates out rock, metal, sand, clay, mud and water. These valuable by-products are all recycled and used for other means including drainage works, roading and landscaping. The recycled water is then reused to supply our hydrovac trucks and for cleaning. The engineering team also oversee the ongoing operations of this recycling plant.
Most recently, the team have been busy rebuilding a fleet of new trucks for our operators. Using Brett’s eye for detail and skill for making things more robust and user-friendly, the team have completed a number of rebuilds with more on the go. The team have managed these projects from whoa to go, from initial delivery through to the custom rebuild to galvanising, painting, and signwriting. They then kit out the trucks, with everything from tools and road cones to first aid kits. Read about the new fleet HERE (link to come).
