Regularly servicing your wastewater system helps to prevent potential health hazards and costly repairs. Auckland City Council regulations require you to have your system inspected and serviced every six months — HydroVac can do this for you.
Here’s what a comprehensive wastewater treatment system service with HydroVac entails:
1. Inspection: Our technician will complete a thorough inspection. They will check:
- the electrical compartment for corrosion or damage of componentry and will advise if an electrician is required
- the alarm — they’ll test this by lifting high level float and disconnecting airline or switch
- the aerator / air blower operation to ensure bacteria is aerating
- internal sludge return pipework for blockages
- inlet and outlet pipes to ensure they are clear.
2. Assessment for an empty. The crust and sludge levels in chambers are checked — this helps our technician to determine when your system might need an empty. Usually it’s 5-8 years or 8-10 years for a Biocycle.
3. Filters are cleaned. The submersible pump operation is checked by removing the pump and cleaning the shroud/impellers. The solids filter and irrigation filter (if fitted) are also removed and cleaned.
4. The disposal field is flushed and checked for above-ground leaks and repairs carried out. Should the field have failed and need replacement, we can offer an estimated quote.
5. Record-keeping: On completion of service a service report will be sent direct to council for their records.
By following a routine maintenance schedule, homeowners can avoid costly repairs, protect the environment, and ensure the longevity of their wastewater system.
