Cleaning your wastewater filter - before

Cleaning Your wastewater filter

Even though your wastewater system is regularly serviced, there is one important task you, as the homeowner, should schedule as part of your routine maintenance: cleaning the outlet filter.

Regular cleaning reduces stress on your pump and can help keep your power bill down. We recommend cleaning the filter once a month – for example, on the 1st of each month – to make it easy to remember.

How to Clean Your Filter:

  1. Switch off the system at the power source.
  2. Wearing rubber gloves, hold the bottom of the filter casing, and unscrew the collar clockwise. Remove the cartridge.
  3. Clean the cartridge by rotating the disc under a garden hose for a minute or two. Ensure all silty residue is removed so the discs spin freely.
  4. Reinsert the cartridge into the casing and screw the collar back on – hand tight only. (Not too tight or your o-ring will need replacing.)
  5. Switch the power back on.

‘Water’ Alarm

If the ‘Water’ alarm sounds, it usually means the filter is blocked. Clean the filter immediately – a blocked filter causes the pump to work continuously, which may shorten its lifespan. If you clean the filter and the alarm does not stop within half an hour, please contact our office as there may be another issue.

Field Irrigation

Once a month, open your taps to allow any sludge out that otherwise might cause a blockage because it’s too big to get of out the holes. Turn it so the black bit lines up with the hose. Don’t forget to turn them off again!
