Peter worked for HydroVac years ago — on the trucks — and he’s recently started back with us as business development associate, working with clients to provide solutions, especially around grease trap and converter empties and maintenance. We ran him through our Q&A to get to know him better…
Q. What made you want to work for HydroVac?
A. The great team and comradery, the company’s viewpoint on staff development, and the opportunity to grow.
Q. What did you do before HydroVac?
A. Recently, I’ve had the privilege of being a stay-at-home dad to my two boys. Before that, I had quite a varied career. I was the territory manager (sales) for NZ’s leading hospitality supplier and the international brand ambassador and national/international sales rep for a NZ diary powder company. That job saw me servicing all of the Pacific islands, Japan, Korea and all of New Zealand — and drinking way too much of their hot chocolate. They make the best hot choc in NZ!
Prior to that, I have been the general manager of restaurants and bars. I was part of the management team at Soul Bar during the Rugby World Cup and many years after that. I don’t have much call for it these days but I am actually an award-winning cocktail bartender!
And, of course, I had the opportunity to work at HydroVac on the trucks — I really enjoyed the work and the people, which is why I’m back here today!
Q. What are you excited about with this new role?
A. The potential to hone my craft and forge ahead in my career.
Q. Tell us about your family/home life…
A. I have an amazing supportive wife and we have two bright and energetic young boys who keep us very busy.
Q. How do you relax?
A. By making my wife and children laugh and teaching our children new skills. I’m currently teaching my oldest to ride a balance bike and my youngest to talk.
Q. What would surprise us about you?
A. I have met over 100 celebrities, including Jay Z and Beyonce. Some of my personal favourites are Gordon Ramsay (I’ve met him 4 times and once he cooked for us at an event in Aussie), David Tennant, one of my favourite actors, and Hitoshi Matsumoto, a Japanese comedian that I have met in NZ and have been drinking with in Japan.
